Our courses are taught by published writers with teaching and research interests in diverse areas of critical and creative work. Creative writing is any writing that goes outside the bounds of normal professional, journalistic, academic, or technical forms of literature, typically identified by an emphasis on narrative craft, character development, and the use of literary tropes or with various traditions of poetry and poetics. For three years she was Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Magdalene College, Cambridge and is currently Academic Director for Creative Writing at the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education. For the Spring 2022 Creative Writers Reading Series, the three visiting writer readings will take place via Zoom, while the other four events will be live. Her book about army wives from the Crimean War to the present day was published in August 2016. Humanities Research Institute and the Department of English/Creative Writing Program (U of I).

Midge Gillies is the author of seven non-fiction books, including biographies of Amy Johnson and Marie Lloyd.
